The recent almost simultaneously publication of two influential statements calling on the United States government and public to treat the climate crisis as a \u201cwar-time emergency\u201d that will require of us a \u201cclimate mobilization\u201d equivalent to the country\u2019s World War 2 effort to defeat fascism in Germany and Japan has sparked intense interest in just what it would take to somehow \u201cwin\u201d the war against climate change.<\/p>\n

The two statements \u2013 the Climate Mobilization\u2019s 100-plus page Victory Plan and Bill McKibben\u2019s essay \u201cA World at War\u201d \u2013 have led to a healthy and vigorous debate about these ideas and their potential to play a role in the US response to the greatest global challenge of the 21st century.<\/p>\n

John Foran will introduce this \u201cOpen Panel\u201d will take off from presentations by Bill McKibben and Ezra Silk followed by critical appraisals from Paul Gilding and Chris Williams, and then switch to an on-line discussion open to all conference participants.<\/p>\n

Expect fireworks \u2013 may there be insight and inspiration as well as light and heat!<\/p>\n
