Thomas Doran is a PhD candidate in English at UC Santa Barbara. He’s currently working on his dissertation, Vulgar Ethology: The Rhetoric of Animal Protection in American Natural History, a study of how animal protectionist rhetoric emerged alongside the developing science of animal behavior in eighteenth and early nineteenth-century natural history writing.
