Ecocide in Indonesia
Forensic Architecture, 9:22, HD video and sound
In 2015, fires in the Kalimantan and Sumantran forests on Indonesia, consumed “over twenty-one thousand square kilometres of forest and peat lands.” A toxic, acrid cloud not only emanated annual emissions more than the German, British and JApanese industries combined, but also swallowed up the seas and lands of Southeast Asia. This experimental documentary featuring remote sensing and pattern recognition of satellite imagery, tells a tale of how ecocides in Indonesia are often linked to how the armed forces capture and displace, the life and land of the indigenous populations of the nation.
