House A. Perth, Australia. 2017. Whispering Smith.
This low-cost apartment-house hybrid was the first of three carbon neutral homes in Scarborough by firm Whispering Smith. This compact three-storey structure was designed to fit a 175 square-m2 block, while still providing green space around the house in a densely populated neighborhood and maintaining the extant mature trees around the site. The house was constructed using recycled materials into high-recycled-content panels and whitewashed recycled brick. House A includes other sustainable features including an underground rain tank, solar panels, and an internal drying line. Whispering Smith’s project offers a potential solution to affordable, sustainable housing (source).
